Manager’s Roundtable: The Manager’s Roundtable is an online meeting that takes place every two months designed to provide local government Assistant Managers, Managers, Directors and above with an opportunity to network and discuss current issues affecting the bylaw profession in local government, as well as, to focus on innovations and best practices and topics related to managerial roles and responsibilities. This program is open to members of LIBOA only.
LIBOA Zone Meetings: There are six zones (regions) of the Association, representing all the areas of British Columbia. Zone meetings are held throughout the year to provide regional membership with networking and professional development opportunities.
Annual Training Conference: The LIBOA Annual Training Conference brings together local government law enforcement professionals from across BC to share ideas, discuss challenges, and create solutions. LIBOA holds its Annual Training Conference and Annual General Meeting in May or June each year in various locations across the province to reflect the geographically diverse membership. Typically, upwards of 100 delegates are in attendance. In addition to the numerous educational sessions on current issues, thought-provoking presentations, as well as networking opportunities for members the Conferences feature vendors providing products and services to the local government bylaw sector.
LIBOA Educational Award: LIBOA offers a scholarship program for member’s family that are pursuing studies in various facets of government, public policy and safety.
Awards Program: LIBOA recognizes its members’ extraordinary achievements and contributions to the local government law enforcement profession through an awards program. Members are nominated by their peers for consideration to a specific award. Award winners are officially recognized during a special presentation at the LIBOA Annual Training Conference. Awards categories include:
· Career Achievement
· Officer of the Year
· Leadership and Valor in the Profession
· Years of Service in the Bylaw Profession
Volunteer Opportunities: Members are invited and encouraged to serve on various committees and a number of task-oriented committees in volunteer positions to provide assistance to the Association on specific projects/programs.
Appointments to these committees range from one to two years, although in some cases they are directly related to a specific project/program and terminate upon its completion.
Volunteering allows members to utilize their expertise on specific subject matters that not only enrich the Association and the profession but provides the opportunity to work with peers from across the province and use experience to further your career and passion.
Dangerous/Vicious Dog Registry: Members have access to a LIBOA managed Dangerous/Vicious Dog Registry that holds information related to dangerous and vicious dogs throughout the province. Local governments provide information of deemed dogs from their jurisdiction to facilitate information sharing and enhance investigations related to dog bites/attacks.
Membership fees also assist in lobbying with government bodies and representing our profession at conferences and educating others on the enhanced roles we can play in community safety and livability. LIBOA has attended the Local Government Management Association (LGMA) Conference speaking with senior staff about bylaw enforcement. We also frequently attend the UBCM Convention and promotes the bylaw profession. These are both excellent venues for the Association to raise important issues with municipal decision makers and elected officials.
